What to Expect
Before surgery — You’ll discuss your goals, lip anatomy, and facial proportions with your surgeon, who will recommend the best technique to achieve a natural, balanced result.
During surgery — Most procedures are done under local anesthesia, sometimes with light sedation, and typically take 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on complexity.
Recovery — Swelling and bruising are common for the first week, with most people resuming normal activities within a few days. Final results settle over several weeks as swelling fully subsides.
Lip Surgery — Benefits
Adds volume/fullness to thin lips, creating a plumper, more defined look
Improves lip shape — enhances the cupid’s bow, defines the vermillion border (lip edge), or balances upper/lower lip proportion
Corrects asymmetry between the left and right sides of the lips
Reduces an overly thin upper lip or “flat” lip profile that can make the mouth look less expressive
Can reduce lips that are considered too large/full (lip reduction) for those seeking a more balanced look
Lifts a long or droopy upper lip (lip lift), shortening the space between nose and lip line for a more youthful look
Corrects a “gummy smile” by adjusting lip position/length if excessive gum is shown when smiling.
